A Persian carpet or Iranian carpet or Iranian rugs is a heavy textile, made for a wide variety of utilitarian and symbolic purpose, produce in Iran and surrounding areas which once belonged to the Persian Empire, Carpet weaving is an essential part of Persian culture and art.
Persian carpets and rugs were woven in parallel by nomadic tribes, in village and town workshops. 
Carpets woven in towns and regional centers like Qom Tabriz, Nain, Kerman, Arak Mashhad, Kashan, Isfahan, are characterized by their specific weaving techniques and kind of high-quality materials, colors and patterns. 
Nomadic and small village weavers often produce light rugs like Gabbeh and Kilim.
